Directors Meeting - Past Minutes September 23, 2003 A meeting of the WSSA Board of Directors was held on September 23, 2003 at the Northeast Branch of the New Hanover Library. Bob Dempsey was absent. President Ken Denne called the meeting to order at 2PM and distributed the meeting agenda.
· All team managers and/or their representatives gave their evaluations for this past year and suggestions for 2004. - Positive comments made were: - Enjoyed season - Co-operation among all teams - Pleased with the two divisions (realignment of league) - Older players are happy in the Coastal division - Negative comments made were: - Lack of players / personnel - Length of season / ( too short ), rained out games not made up - Mixed feelings on team concerning forfeits , not enough players. - Suggestions made: - Balance the talent within the Atlantic Division - Need to implement an age base system to transfer players to Coastal Division - Need to recruit more players into our league next year - Improve communication between players and coaches, between coaches, between league representatives and coaches and between league representatives and board members. - With two divisions, have a President for each division. - Change courtesy runner rule - Start with a one and one count on the batter - Use a 6' pitcher's box - Only the mat would be a strike, not the plate - Go with ASA on certified bats, not City of Wilmington rules - Use a yellow ball
· Minutes of the July 31, 2003 meeting were approved.
· Treasurer’s report: All bills paid with league balance of $3779
· Old Business: - Thanks to all who helped co-ordinate the league picnic.
· Commissioners Report - Phil would like in the future for all managers to ensure that their players have paid their league fees and notifies him of any new players during the season. - Phil will be changing the sponsorship program for next year. Details later - Fund raising this year was not as good as last year.$3300 was collected compared to $3750 last year P. Rose collected $1800 this year and $1050 last year. Only 7 of the 108 players got sponsor money for the League P. Rose donated $1200 to the two new teams, Navigators and Patriots. - He has ads for the WSSA in three local publications. - Phil has a tentative schedule for next year. (Starting date will be April 6 with the last two weeks of July and the first two weeks of August off and the Playoffs starting October 12)
· Player Representative’s Report - Make up flyers for new players. - Patronize all our sponsors
· New Business - We are making plans for a booth at Riverfest - League banner has been updated. - State games discussion (with the uncertainty of the makeup schedule, it appears that 55-59 and 60-64 teams will not compete this year.)
· Rosters - The board decided to wait and see how many new players come out and their respective ages before making a decision on the rosters. - The General Membership meeting be held in January 2004. - We will need two new managers as Harry Rowe (Investors) and Rick Mongero (Roosters) have stated that they will step down as managers next year. - The board agreed to change the rule for an over run at third base where the third Base coach just gets in the way. This will not be an out.
· George Scelzi made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Marty Plage. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
