Breaktime Sports Bar & Grill

The WSSA Board of Directors held a meeting on March 8, 2005 at the

Breaktime Sports Bar and Grill. All members of the Board were present. The meeting was called to order by President Ken Denne at 11:03 AM.

·        The minutes of the February 22, 2005 General Membership meeting were approved.

·        Treasurer’s Report:  Checkbook total of $9295.21

Team balances as follows:

Legends   -- $1092.05

Kohl’s      --  $897.33

Navigators -  $100.84

Patriots     --  $267.19

Gold’s      --   $184.73

Osteo’s     --   $122.42

Roosters   --   $626.07

Investors  --   $235.17

·        Commissioners Report:

-         Ken and Phil attended a meeting with the New Hanover County Parks

-         And recreation department. They are trying to secure a porty potty for Veterans Park, they will also do some work on Ogden Park to prevent washouts from the rain.

-         Phil said we have 105 players returning from last year and approximately there are 32 new players.

 

·        Old Business:  None

·        New Business:

-  Joe Seme reported on the meeting, which he attended with the Mayor 

   and the Wilmington Parks and Recreation Dept. Esentially nothing will

   be done without a bond referendum and this will not take place before

   November, 2006. Joe will formulate a letter to the City Council

   Members, which we encourage all players to sign and send to them.

   Also we need to send letters to the Star-News about the need for more

   softball facilities.

-  All managers need to get together to buy equipment (bats) and maybe  

   get a better price at Play It Again Sports.


 

 

·        Agenda Items:

  Banquet:

      Ken suggested instead of having a picnic at the end of the season 

      maybe have a banquet and taking nominations for new board 

      members for the next year.

  Golf Tournament:

      Due to the renovation at The Cape Golf Course, our softball golf 

      tournament may be scheduled for September. Jim Kelly to coordinate.

  Rosters, Draft etc.:

      Joe Seme made the motion to drop the age limit to 53. Mike Fleming 

      seconded the motion, which was approved 7-0.

         Items mentioned in the discussion of this motion were:

     --  May move some people out of league

     --  Commitment level of younger players

     --  Too many part time players

  The managers are working on the draft and rosters in order to balance 

  the league.

- Schedule – Phil Rose is still working on schedule.

     - Practice schedule has been revised and will start March 22 for all teams

     - Season will start on April 19 after the Senior Games

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
