Directors Meeting - Past Minutes

Northeast branch of the New Hanover County Library

The WSSA Board of Directors held a meeting on June 22, 2004 at the Northeast branch of the New Hanover County Library. Marty Plage and John Keane were absent. The Meeting was called to order by President Ken Deene at 2:03 PM.

 

The meeting format was changed to address the agenda items first with input from the team managers. All teams were represented except the Roosters and Patriots (Dwight Crainshaw and Jerry Dowling were not present).

·        Rosters

      -    Coastal Division

-         Kohl’s and Navigators have enough players if everyone shows up 

to play. Several players that were drafted on teams have never even showed up to play.

-         Legends have seven players who are injured and have also two

     players who have never showed up to play.

     -    Atlantic Division

-         O’s started with twelve players and now have fourteen. Two are part time players. (No Needs)

-         Investors started with fourteen lost one and then added a player. 

     They have fourteen on the roster, which includes three part time 

     players. 

-         Eagles started with fourteen but gave Miller to the Roosters and have since lost Dewey to an injury. Eagles now at twelve with one part time player.

 

 

·        Following the managers’ reports on their teams situation and discussion 

     for the play off format, the Board approved the following  recommendation:

For the next two weeks the Coastal Division could pick up Atlantic Division

     players from a designated pool only to ensure that they have enough players.

     These are the designated players in the pool. Bill Robinson, Richie Price,

     Bart Comier, Marty Free, George Scelzi, Bud Baldwin, Steve Hagen,

     Bob Sippel, Tony Costagliola, John Lupton and Carl Hiatt.


 

 

·        Playoff Format

-   Phil Rose made Motion: The team with the most accumlative

         wins will be seeded first in playoff format and the team with second

         most wins will be seeded second and so forth.  George Scelzi seconded

         the motion. After a lengthy discussion, this motion was withdrawn.

     -  George Scelzi made the following motion that for the purpose 

         of playoff seedings the first place team of each half will get four points.

         The second place team of each half will get three points, the second

Place the third place team of each half will get two points and the fourth 

         place team of each half will get one point. Total of these points will

         determine the play off seeding with the team accumulating the most 

         points getting the #1 seeding and so forth. In case of a tie, then the head

         to head record between these teams will be used to break the tie. Phil

         Rose seconded this motion which was approved by an 8-0 vote.

·        Fields

Still working on getting a porta-potty at Veteran’s Park. Phil Rose reported that the field was in great shape.

·        State Tournament in Raleigh

Dates are September 13-15

·        Picnic

Tentative in September

** This concluded the Agenda items for the managers and the Board

     resumed with the normal order of business. 

·        Minutes of the WSSA meeting on April 13, 2004 were approved.

·        Treasurer's report:

Check book Balance of $9,383.21  (League balance of $5814.81)

     Team Balances:

     Legends: $859.90  Kohl’s: $722.33 Patriots: $287.19  Navigators: $75.19      

     Eagles: $184.73 Osteo’s: $122.42  Rooster’s: $626  Investors  $689.92

·        Old Business: None

·        New Business: None

·        Commissioner's Report:

-   18 players present at Break Time Grille on June 15

   -   Sponsorship program not as good as last year (Only five people

  have recruited sponsors and received money for the league).

     -   Next ROMEO at Rucker John’s June 29

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
