Directors Meeting - Past Minutes July 31, 2003 A meeting of the WSSA Board of Officers was held on July 31, 2003 at the Myrtle Grove Library. Absent were Ron Sullivan and John Keane. President Ken Denne called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM and distributed the meeting agenda.
· Minutes of last month’s meeting were approved. · Treasurer’s report: All bills paid with league balance of $4451.79 · Old Business: Thanks to all who helped co-ordinate the golf tournament. It was noted that the league banner needs to be updated.
· Commissioners Report Phil has sent letters to the Mayor of Wilmington and the County Commissioners Office about the need for more softball fields for adults. No response was received from either office but recently Phil had a telephone conversation with the Mayor. Harper stated that the City of Wilmington is looking at an option for a park off Martin Luther King Parkway. Phil mentioned that the Coastal Division has adopted the 15 run mercy rule.
· Player Representative’s Report There has been some concern about not having umpires for all the games. Unfortunately this is a problem with the availability of all the umpires on Tuesdays and Thursdays and City of Wilmington’s restrictions for umpires.
· New Business - Joe Seme volunteered to go before the County Commissioners and lobby for more Softball fields. - The board unanimously agreed for Joe Seme to secure hats and shirts for the 55-59 state tournament team. Joe also mentioned that we need catcher’s mask for the state games. Phil will check with the managers to see if any are available. - The Offices of President and Secretary are up for election this year. Ken Denne and Mike Abernathy have agreed to run again unless there are individuals who genuinely are interested in these positions. All managers will poll their players for any candidates. - A picnic committee of Ken Denne, George Rose, Marty Plage, Harry Rowe and Bob Perry was appointed to make plans for a league picnic to be held August 28, 2003 at 5PM at Shelter #5 at Hugh MacRae Park. - It was agreed that the July 22 postponed games will not be made up and the schedule will remain as posted with the playoffs to start on August 21, 2003.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned
