Directors Meeting - Past Minutes February 17, 2004 TThe WSSA Board of Directors held a meeting on February 17, 2004 at the Northeast branch of the New Hanover County Library. Bob Dempsey was absent. The Meeting was called to order by President Ken Deene at 9:02am. All team managers or representative were invited to this meeting to inform the board of their team’s status, whether they wanted to take time off during the season and if they were in favor of splitting the season into two halves.
First John Rankin from the City of Wilmington Central Services (formerly Wilmington Parks and Recreation Department) was recognized and presented the following facts to the board. · The new softball complex near Martin Luther King Parkway is dead. The present City Council sees no revenue in such a facility. All softball leagues need to get involved and make council aware of our concerns for new softball facilities. · John stated that the city had informed him to cut his budget by 3-5%. These cuts will have to come from the non-revenue portion, which involves umpires fees for Senior Softball. He suggested we find some umpires for our league. · City will use 44 core 375-compression softballs and ASA certified bats.
Next the managers or their representatives gave a status on their teams. Most needed more players and all were in favor of a break but not for two months. Only three teams expressed interest in splitting the season into two halves.
