Directors Meeting - Past Minutes August 29, 2002 A meeting of the WSSA Board of Directors was held on August 29, 2002 at the Northeast Library on Military Cutoff Road. In attendance were Ken Denne, Marty Plage, Russ Puckett, Mike Abernathy, Phil Rose, Rick Mongero, Joe Seme, George Rose, Phil Kaufman and Bart Comier. President Ken Denne called the meeting to order at 9:15 AM and distributed the meeting agenda. The minutes of the last meeting were approved. Russ Puckett presented the Treasurer’s Report. Phil Rose in the Commissioner’s Report updated everyone on the league standings. Phil lead a discussion on the coming State Senior games with pertinent information that he had received on the dates and number of teams in each age bracket. Phil is working on a winter playing schedule for Oct-Dec. See Phil if you are interested. Old Business: None New Business:Bart Comier of the O’s presented a situation, which occurred in one game concerning the Commitment Line Rule 1.1 exception. After some discussion, a motion was made by Phil Rose to delete the exception. George Rose seconded the motion, which was approved 7-1. Mart Plage addressed the issue of courtesy runners. He felt that the rule was being abused by using too many courtesy runners. It seemed like some of the younger, faster players were running all the time. Phil Kaufman made the following proposal: That each manager approach their team and players about running. If a player wants to run, let him run. But if a player would like to have a courtesy runner, it is his choice. Agenda Items: Constitution: A motion was made by Phil Rose to form a committee to revise the present constitution. Motion was seconded by George Rose and approved by the board 8-2. Ken appointed the following to serve on this committee. Phil Rose (Chairman), Joe Seme, Bart Comier, Chip Krieger and Bob Perry. Picnic: The managers were reminded to promote the September 12th picnic and bring the number that plan to attend back to Ken. Playoffs: Double elimination playoff format presented and accepted by board. Rosters: Each manager updated the board with their current number of players on each roster. Safety: Ken Denne relinquished the chair to Joe Seme in order to make the following motion: That the WSSA use only wooden bats. During the discussion on the motion, it was noted that we have had four injuries in the last two years. Two of these were serious injuries with one occurring last year using the low compression balls. The subject of masks for the pitchers was discussed with Phil Kaufman volunteering to check into a mask. The subject of the banned bats by the ASA was also brought up and our league will abide by the ASA rules to ban these bats. Each manager will check his team’s bats for compliance. Motion to use only wooden bats was not approved by a vote of 3 yes to 5 no. Ken Denne will distribute flyers to each manager with a section for comments, suggestions, grievances etc. from the league membership for guidance in 2003. All input will be appreciated. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
