Annual Membership Meeting - Past Minutes January 19, 2005 The WSSA Board of Directors held the general membership meeting on January 19, 2005 at the Breaktime Sports Bar and Grill. Ron Sullivan was absent. The meeting was called to order by President Ken Denne at 10:03 AM followed by the pledge of allegiance to the American Flag and a prayer by Phil Rose. · Ken introduced the present members of the Board. · The minutes of the January 13, 2005 meeting were approved. · Treasurer’s Report: Checkbook total of ~$7000.00 with league balance of ~$3400. Jim Kelly and Gerry Paige were appointed to audit our finances. · An amendment to the league’s By-Laws was presented to the membership by the board. This amendment states that “the election of officers may be by ballot or acclamation vote”. The amendment was unanimously approved by the membership. · Phil Rose nominated John Keane for Vice-Present. He was elected by accalmation vote. George Rose nominated Mike Fleming for Treasurer and he was elected by an accalmation vote. · President’s Report: - Ken was going to present a defensive player of the year award but investigations revealed use of an illegal glove. Also he thought about Joe Seme for manager of the year but decided against it after Joe didn’t use a fast runner in the last inning of the championship game. - Ken recognized Marty Plage and Tommy Clifford for their efforts with Dave McKeown. He thanked the other teams for their encouragement to Dave when he hit the ball and ran the bases. - Ken also recognized Ed Healy and Jack McGann for their efforts and CPR skills, which they used heroically to try and save Richard Shields. · Commissioner’s Report: - Phil met with the Supper Optimist Club. They are willing to help us in any way they can also they may need help from us. - Senior Games dates are April 12 & 14 - State Senior Games dates are September 12-14 - Last year the sponsorship program was not been very productive. Phil suggested that every team be assessed a $100.00 to $200.00 sponsor fee. This may entice all teams to go out and recruit sponsors for the league and their team. The majority of the Board thought this was a good idea and should be brought before the membership.
- League fees are being raised this year due to having umpires for all games. The city of Wilmington’s Recreation Department in the past had helped pay the umpires fees but last year this was stopped. Also in the future the county may start charging for using the county fields. - Each division will decide if they would like in initiate the neighborhood team concept. - Draft – Notify your manager if you wish to move up or change teams. · New Players Introduction
· Open Discussion - Photo of team on the sponsors plaques - Time limit on Senior Games in Raleigh - Bats to be used in the National Senior Games - Harry Rowe made a motion that some portion of the league fees goes back to the teams for equipment, uniforms etc. Joe Seme seconded the motion. Richie Pudney proposed an amendment to the motion that the portion to be returned to the teams will be set by the board. Bill Krebs seconded the amendment. The amendment and the motion were both passed by a unanimous vote. - Harry Rowe made a motion that the league doesn’t consider the Neighborhood team concept without the input of the entire league general membership. Gerry Paige seconded the motion, which was passed by a unanimous vote. - Practice will start the first Tuesday of March with the games starting on April 5.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
