Annual Membership Meeting - Past Minutes

January 21, 2004

TThe Board of Directors met at 9:00am to cover all items on the meeting agenda before the General Membership Meeting. George Scelzi was absent.

The General Membership Meeting was called to order by President Ken Denne at 10:05 AM. Ken introduced all board members to the membership.

Ken expressed sympathy from the league to those who had lost loved ones recently. Bobby Lord expressed thanks to those who had sent cards.

Ken gave the Treasurer’s Report (Balance $2934.72) and appointed Joe Boardman and Ed Healy to audit the Treasurer’s records

Ken opened the floor for nominations for the office of President. Joe Seme nominated Ken Denne for President and Ken was unanimously elected by the membership.

Ken opened the floor for nominations for the office of Secretary. Joe Seme nominated Mike Abernathy for Secretary and Mike was unanimously elected by the membership. 

Ken brought a motion from the Board for amending the League By-Laws to the membership. Ron Bondulich made a motion to approve the amendments and was seconded by Jack Schwarze. The motion was unanimously approved by the membership.

Ken introduced the two new managers  (Gerry Paige and Jerry Dowling) and recognized last year’s championship managers (George Rose and Phil Kaufman).

 

 

 

 

Commissioner’s Report:

  • Senior Games dates are April 13 and 15
  • Defibrillator need
  • $10.00 of League Fees now goes into the League’s Reserve Fund
  • Wilmington Metro Sports Commission  (We are currently attending the meetings but have not joined).
  • Managers need to keep the Commissioner updated on all players
  • Need correct e-mail address for all players
  • Neighbor team concept (Future)
  • Sponsorship Program raised $3300 last year
  • Schedule March 30 through October (Coastal Division may take time off in July and August due to heat and vacations. Atlantic Division may decide not to take as much time off).
  • Phil can purchase Wilmington Senior Softball Jackets for anyone who is interested.
  • Star-News recognition of our League is greatly appreciated

Open Discussion: The following are items brought up for the floor:

  • Recommend that we look into purchasing Defibrillator
  • Need an emergency contact phone number for all players
  • Northstar Financial is running a TV ad with our Navigators team in ad
  • When is the first regular scheduled game?  March 30, 2004
  • Look into putting advertisement in Newcomers publication
  • Need better communication between the League and umpires contact person
  • Since the yellow softball is not available in the 525 compression, we will use the regulation white softball. (525 compression and 44 core)
  • Which bats are approved by ASA and can be used in our league? ASA District Umpire Commissioner Bill Best was present at our meeting and will give us a list of approved and banned bats after his district meeting the last of January.

Ken had all the new players stand and introduce themselves to the membership.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
