2010 - SR. SOFTBALL 15TH SEASON..!!! It was 1996 when Phil Rose started the Wilmington Senior Softball League with three teams. Season number 15 with 10 teams is being planned right now. Here are some dates to note for 2010. NEW PLAYERS FOR THE 2010 SEASON WILL START WORKOUTS ON TUESDAY, JAN.26TH AT EMPIE PARK AT 12:45 PM,THERE ARE 16 MEN REGISTERED AT THIS TIME. March 23 & 25 - Player draft March 30 - First practice game April 20 to 22 - Wilmington Senior Games at Empie and Robert Strange parks. April 27 - Season opening Sept. 13 to 15 - NC Senior Games in Raleigh Rick mongero is home and feeling better after his triple bypass . he expects to be playing in about 12 weeks. Henry Hobbs who suffered a stroke is home and progressing slowly, but improving every day. Hw uses a walker to get around. Roy Mayo had neurosurgery at UNC on Dec. 2. He had a grape size tumor (benign) removed from his vestibular nerve between his right ear and brain. He had nine hours of surgery and a titanium plate inserted in the back of his head. He reports he is doing better, has 85% of his balance restored and hopes to be back for softball in the spring.

Congratulations to Bob Helm's team the Spoilmakers (in black) as they defeated Dwight Crainshaw's team Good'Nuff (in white) 64 to 62 to win the Seniors 3 on 3 basketball playoffs. This year about 30 players competed in the 55 and older Senior Basketball League at the YMCA. The season runs from Nov. to early Feb. Mark it on your calendar for next year. STATE SENIOR GAMES RESULTS We sent three teams to Raleigh to represent Wilmington in the State Senior Softball Games. They consisted of the 60, 65 and 70 teams.
Undefeated State Championship 65 - 69 team captained by Mike Abernathy The 65 team played four games and went undefeated to win the gold medal. In one of the games Charley Lawson hit a home run. The 60 team almost went all the way losing in the final game and took the silver medal. The 70 team played five games and faced stiff competition winning the first two games and losing the third by one run 12-11, then lost the last two games. Richard Price went 11 for 14 batting 786 whileBob Dempsey hit a home run. Next year we will be able to add a 75 team. STATE GAMES MEDAL AWARDS
